Improving Mine Clearance Safety with Advanced Positioning Technology

Collaborating with Mifi Maps, we've developed an innovative multi-rover tracking system with centimetre-level accuracy to enhance humanitarian demining operations.

We're pleased to share our latest project update on a system that aims to significantly advance humanitarian demining efforts. Collaborating with Mifi Maps, we've developed an innovative solution designed to track multiple rovers with centimetre-level accuracy, aiming to improve both safety and efficiency in the field once fully deployed.

Precision That Makes a Difference

In landmine clearance, accuracy plays a critical role in creating safer working conditions. Our positioning technology targets centimetre-level precision—helping operators pinpoint exact locations and reducing potential risks in the clearance process.

"Centimetre-level accuracy can be pivotal in mine clearance operations," explains Adam Prescott, CTO of Nemiah. "We’ve collaborated with MiFi Maps to develop a system that maintains a high level of precision even in remote locations where traditional GPS often struggles."

The Multi-Rover Advantage

A major highlight of the solution is its capability to track multiple rovers simultaneously, which, once fully implemented, will allow teams to:

  • Cover larger areas more efficiently
  • Maintain consistent data quality throughout operations
  • Create comprehensive digital records
  • Ensure thorough area coverage without omissions

Technical Solutions for Field Challenges

We addressed several key challenges during development:

  • Dual-Antenna Configuration: Redesigned hardware incorporates two antennas, significantly boosting directional accuracy.
  • Integrated Control System: Consolidating multiple components on a single microcontroller improves reliability and simplifies field maintenance.
  • Robust Communications: We engineered a wireless protocol that maintains connectivity under remote and challenging conditions.

Mifi Maps Logo Rebranding

Rebranding and Logo Design

We've also leveraged our full-stack capabilities to refresh the Mifi Maps brand:

  • The new branding includes several key elements:
    • Utilises the natural alliteration of "Mifi Maps" for better brand recognition
    • Features a distinctive map pin icon to represent location services
    • Includes a tracking dot element to reinforce precision tracking technology
  • This comprehensive rebrand aligns the visual identity with the core technological offerings
  • The redesigned assets ensure consistency across all digital and physical touchpoints

User-Friendly Mobile Application

Understanding that ease of use is vital in high-pressure environments, we've created a user-friendly mobile app designed to offer:

  • Real-time visualisation of rover positions
  • Simple data export options
  • Team coordination tools
  • Progress tracking and access to historical records
